Victim bashing

A sensational court case against former hockey coach David Frost is dissolving into a good old fashioned slut shaming party.

The coach is alleged to have become intimately involved in his players sex lives, including having threesomes with a couple of teenage players and their girlfriends.

Frost was clearly in a position of authority over the teenage boys and so they are the victims.

Their girlfriends, who were 16-years-old at the time, are being considered willing participants in the sex acts, because while they say they were pressured, they were not physically forced.

So these young women’s names are out in the public, and now the defense lawyer for Frost is dragging their young sex lives out into open court.

The defense’s line of reasoning seems to be this, Frost didn’t have sex with them, but even if they did have threesomes it wouldn’t have been the first threesome these whores had.

“Hammering away at the witness, defence lawyer Henein suggested the woman — who was 16 when these two-on-ones allegedly began — had invented the stories involving Frost. The witness strongly disagreed. “I’m not making this up. Why would I make this up?’’
Henein further posited that the woman had a strong will of her own and was sexually adventurous; that she was never intimidated into having threesomes but they never occurred with Frost.
“It did happen and it happened for six years. I was controlled,’’ the witness said.
But the witness agreed that she had behaved in a sexually exhibitionistic way on other occasions, when Frost was either not present or not involved in the activities.
On one occasion, at a party, the witness admitted that she had taken off her top, then three times spread her legs to reveal her vagina while being filmed by a video camera, at one point holding a beer bottle between her thighs.
She also admitted to performing oral sex on a woman with other people present, but not Frost.
And the witness acknowledged that she had threesomes involving two hockey players with Frost nowhere in the vicinity.
    “I made wrong choices.’’”

The hockey player victims are completely defending their old coach and describing their old girlfriends as little more than disposable communal sex toys.

“...the other “complainant,’’ who admitted to group sex – “up to five or six guys with one woman’’ – but never with Frost involved. Such encounters were not uncommon for hockey players; they were “like a bonding thing with your friends and teammates,’’ he said.”

What these women did consensually as teens with other teens is so irrelevant to the case. The defense lawyer shouldn’t be looking for Barely Legal porn ideas and the Crown shouldn’t be allowing this witness bashing to go on unchallenged.

Last I heard a victim’s sexual history was irrelevant in cases of sexual assault. Regardless of what the court decided, if these women are telling the truth (and why on earth would they make it up?) then they were victims too.

Sad to think the women have been named while the "complainants", who have since decided they actually have nothing to complain about, are protected.

This is why rape shield laws were invented . . . and are necessary. Of course, since they're not "complainants", the lawyer is able to question them in this way. But just because you're allowed to do something doesn't necessarily mean you should.
