I know I can’t be the only one getting sick of “Bad news: you’re daughter’s a whore” headlines.
This super shocking article in the Star is covering an even more sensationalistic author/filmmaker who’s calling blow jobs the new goodnight kiss... also teens are doing it for cash. Oh and it’s not just for trampy poor girls anymore.
I hate this kind of crap for so many reasons I barely know where to start, so let’s dive right in shall we?
First off, I hate that whenever adults get themselves into a tizzy about teenage sexual practices it is always focused solely on the girls.
Is it girls giving other girls money to go down on them? That’s not the impression we’re given.
So is no one attached to these penises that are apparently a constant threat to young virtue?
If we’re worried about a “rampant” social trend of girls thinking oral sex is no big deal, we should be equally as concerned about a generation of boys paying for their first sexual experiences. I know if I was raising a son I would hate that he saw his female classmates solely as prostitutes in waiting.
Second, this intense focus people have on teenage girls’ sexuality is nothing short of voyeuristic and creepy. You can wrap in all the “super sincere” concern you want, but it’s still really transparent.
Third, this is not a real social trend! Every time one of these articles or movies or books comes out it’s based on extreme anecdotal cases.
Every time a recent study comes out on teen sexual health it finds this is not at all a common phenomenon. Take the study that found only 1 in 5 American teens has had oral sex. The majority of teen having oral sex (67 percent) had only one partner. They also found that “it was more common for boys to have performed oral sex on girls than vice versa.”
So let’s all take a deep breath, and stop thinking about minors getting it on.
