Saturday Night's Alright!
Thank you Elton. Or Chad. Or both.
After last year, when I spent the winter on the treacherous 401 to and from hockey games in Oshawa, I decided to find myself a league a little closer to home.
Enter the Cobourg Evangelical Hockey League!
I started playing pick up with these guys in late August, and game action finally started a couple weeks back. We play on Saturday nights. It's a good league, and hey, I'm down with G-O-D.
It's a seven team league, 10 skaters to a team and one goalie. My team is called West Brothers, and our jersey is.... green. Which wouldn't be so bad, but every other team in the league has NHL replica jerseys! Not sure how that happened, but I've already seen the Flyers, the Penguins, and the Senators. Maybe we can call ourselves the Whalers?
It was the Sens who lined up against us (the green team) on opening night, October 4. My team proved to have some scoring punch, and I shook off a few cob webs between the pipes on the way to a 7-4 win.
Last weekend was a Thanksgiving bye for everyone, and this weekend we're back in action.
No idea which NHL team we'll be playing this time, but if it's my beloved Habs, I'm going to have a real crisis of faith!
